TRAVEL PROTOCOL

Officials who drive their cars to game sites outside of Waco are paid mileage by the host school.  For years, the chapter has encouraged officials to invoke some personal guidelines or protocol when traveling to games and receiving mileage money.

Officials should not take separate cars to games in outlying towns and split the mileage.  This scenario does absolutely nothing to create camaraderie, prohibits the officials from discussing basketball and conducting a pre-game conference in the car, and creates the risk of one official making it to the game site and the other official having car trouble, etc.  Now, the official who arrived at the game site is forced to work the game alone, which is no fun, period!

Work together on travel and mileage just as you do on the basketball court.  It makes officiating much more enjoyable!

GYM LOCATIONS

(numbers in parentheses indicates approximate mileage from Waco)

Abbott

I-35 North; take the Abbott exit and turn right; school will then be back on the right; (30)

Aquilla

Lake Shore Drive; at the four-way stop take Hwy. 933 North (Gholson Road); in Aquilla, the school will be back off the highway to the right; (25)

Axtell

I-35 North; take Lake Shore Drive exit, turn right; on Lake Shore, exit Hwy. 84 and go left; take Hwy. 31 (left at the Y); look for small “Axtell” sign.  Turn right onto this road and then turn left at the next road; go into town and the school will be back on the left; (20)

Blooming Grove

I-35 North; Exit Hwy. 22 near the Hillsboro Outlet Mall; turn right and go east through Brandon, Mertens and Frost to Blooming Grove; in Blooming Grove, school will be several blocks off the highway on the right; old gym is at the high school; new gym is by the football field; (60)

Blum

Take Hwy. 933 North (Gholson Road); go through Aquilla and Whitney; Blum is 15-20 miles past Whitney; as the highway makes a right turn into Blum, look for a small street sign that indicates “7th Street”; turn right and go up the hill; the gym is at the top of the hill; (55-60)

Bosqueville

North 19th past MCC; road then becomes FM 1637; go through Bosqueville; turn right on Steinbeck Bend Road; go about 1/8 mile and turn left at the light; school will be on right after a few blocks; the gym is located east of the school; (8)

Brazos Middle

Cumberland St. in Waco; across street from Reicher Catholic HS

Bremond

Hwy. 6 South through Riesel, Marlin and a small community named Reagan; past Reagan, turn left on Hwy. 46 and go approx. 3-4 miles to Bremond; school will be on the left; (50-55)

Bruceville-Eddy

I-35 South; after passing the Bruceville exit, take the next exit; school will be on right; (15-20)

Bynum

I-35 North; take the Abbott exit; turn right and go through Abbott; Bynum is about 10 miles northeast of Abbott; (40)

Chilton

Loop 340 South to Hwy. 77 South in Robinson; go through Robinson; exit off Hwy. 77 South at Chilton and turn left; as you enter the town, school will be 1-2 blocks off the highway on the left; the gym is behind the school; (25)

Carver JH

China Spring

North 19th past MCC; road becomes FM 1637; go through Bosqueville

JH & HS- travel on FM 1637;  turn left onto FM 185 (North River Crossing); go approx. ½ mile; schools will be on right; JH is first then HS (15)

Clifton

Hwy. 6 North across Lake Waco twin bridges and through town of Valley Mills; stay on Hwy. 6 North to Clifton

Elementary- as you enter the town, turn left on 13th Street (beside Johnny's Restaurant); go one block to gym parking lot

JH- go completely through town and school will be on the left; turn left between Brookshire’s Grocery and several car dealerships; gym entrance is on east side of the school (35-40)

HS- go completely through town and school will be on the left; turn left between Brookshire’s Grocery and several car dealerships; gym entrance is on west side of the school; park between high school and football field; (35-40)

Connally

MS- I-35 North; exit Hwy. 77 South and turn left and stay on access road; at first available crossover, cross Hwy. 77; turn right and go north on Old Dallas Road; school will be on left (5)

HS- I-35 North; exit Hwy. 77 South and turn left and stay on access road; school will be on left (4)

Coolidge

I-35 North; take Lake Shore Drive exit, turn right; on Lake Shore, exit Hwy. 84 and go left; stay on Hwy. 84 (right at the Y); look for sign that indicates “Prairie Hill”; turn left on Hwy. 73 (30)

Corsicana

I-35 North; take Lake Shore Drive exit, turn right; on Lake Shore, exit Hwy. 84 and go left; take Hwy. 31 (left at the Y) and go through Hubbard and Dawson; once in Corsicana, turn left by a Wal-Mart/Super K-Mart; go about 1-2 miles and school will be on right; (55-60)

Covington

I-35 North to Hillsboro; take Hillsboro exit; in Hillsboro turn left at the stop light where road runs by the county courthouse; after 3-4 blocks, turn right onto Hwy. 171 North to Covington; school will be on left in Covington; (55-60)

Cranfills Gap

Hwy. 6 North across Lake Waco twin bridges through town of Valley Mills to Clifton; in Clifton, turn left at the stop light onto Hwy. 219; Hwy. 219 is very crooked; in Cranfills Gap, school will be on the right; (55-60)

Crawford

Hwy. 6 North across Lake Waco twin bridges; turn left at stop light onto Hwy. 185; in Crawford, stay on Hwy. 185 through the blinking light; school is on the left behind the old HS; (20-25)

Dawson

I-35 North; take Lake Shore Drive exit, turn right; on Lake Shore, exit Hwy. 84 and go left; take Hwy. 31 (left at the Y); go through Hubbard on Hwy. 31; in Dawson, turn right at the blinking light; go approximately 4-5 blocks; turn left; school will be on the right; (35)

Evant

Hwy. 84 West through McGregor and Gatesville; in Evant, take the Hwy. 281 exit and cross over Hwy. 84 into town; school will be on the left; (70)

Fairfield

I-35 North; take Lake Shore Drive exit, turn right; on Lake Shore, exit Hwy. 84 and go left; stay on Hwy. 84 (right at the Y); go through towns of Mexia and Teague; go through Fairfield and school will be on the right; turn at blinking light; the JH is located west of the HS; the HS now plays in the Johnson Activity Center (65-70)

Gatesville

Hwy. 84 West through McGregor; in Gatesville, turn left at the first stop light; school will be on the left; the JH is past the HS; (40)

Gholson JH

Lake Shore Drive; at the four-way stop, take Hwy. 933 North (Gholson Road); (15)

Glen Rose

Hwy. 6 North across Lake Waco twin bridges and through towns of Valley Mills and Clifton to Meridian; take the “Y” into Meridian; at the four-way stop; turn left on Hwy. 144; go through Walnut Springs

JH- in Glen Rose, turn left at the first light; go two blocks and turn right; turn right at the next light (Hwy. 67); go about ¼ mile and then veer to the right off Hwy. 67; (80)

HS- in Glen Rose, turn left at the first light; go two blocks and turn right; turn left at the next light (Hwy. 67); school will be on the left (80)

Grandview

I-35 North; at the I-35 split, take I-35 West; take the Grandview exit and turn left; in Grandview, turn left at the stop light; go about 8-10 blocks and school is back on the left; gym entrance is behind the high school; (60)

Groesbeck

Hwy. 6 South; veer left on Hwy. 164 (Mart exit) and go through Mart; in Groesbeck:

JH- turn right at the stop light; JH on the right (45-50)

HS- turn left at the stop light; HS on the right; gym is behind the HS; (45-50)

Hamilton

Hwy. 84 West through McGregor; before entering Gatesville, turn right on Hwy. 36 North; go through Jonesboro; in Hamilton, go past two stop lights and then turn left on College Street; school is at the top of the hill; the new HS is across the street from the older school buildings; (70-75)

Hico

Hwy. 6 North across Lake Waco twin bridges and through the towns of Valley Mills, Clifton, Meridian and Iredell; in Hico, before reaching downtown, turn right on an FM Road ; go about ¼ mile and school will be on right; (75-80)

Hillsboro

I-35 North; take Hillsboro exit

JH- in town, turn right at the square and go approx. 2-3 blocks; school on right; (35-40)

HS- before entering town, school will be on left; (35-40)

Hubbard

I-35 North; take Lake Shore Drive exit, turn right; on Lake Shore, exit Hwy. 84 and go left; take Hwy. 31 (left at the Y); before reaching Hubbard, school will be on the right; (30)

Iredell

Hwy. 6 North across Lake Waco twin bridges and through the towns of Valley Mills, Clifton and Meridian; in Iredell, school will be on the right about 2-3 blocks off highway; (70)

Italy

I-35 North; at the I-35 split, take I-35 East; take the Italy exit, turn right and go into town; school is in the middle of town; the Gladiator Dome is behind the high school; (55-60)

Itasca

I-35 North; at the I-35 split, take I-35 West; take the Itasca exit, turn left and go into town; school will be 1-2 blocks to the right; JH may play in the old HS gym; most games are played in the Special Events Center; (50)

Jonesboro

Hwy. 84 West through McGregor; before entering Gatesville, turn right on Hwy. 36 North to Jonesboro; as you go through town, school will be on right; (55)

Kopperl

Lakeshore Dr.; take Hwy. 933 North (Gholson Road); go through Aquilla to Whitney; in Whitney, turn left on Hwy. 22 and go approximately 10 miles (you will cross the Lake Whitney Dam); turn right on Hwy. 56 North; in Kopperl, school will be on the right 1-2 blocks off highway; (60-65)

Lake Air JH

I-35 South; Valley Mills Drive exit; veer right; turn right on New Road; cross Bosque Blvd; turn left on Cobbs; school will be on right

LaVega

HS- I-35 North; exit Lake Shore Dr.; turn right at light; go about 1/3 mile; school on right; park behind the school and enter from back (3)

JH-George Dixon campus- exit Lake Shore Dr.; turn right at light; go past HS; Lake Shore Dr. becomes Loop 340; heading south on Loop 340, school will be on right (4)

Ashleman St. Gym- may play some games here; I-35 North; take Hwy. 84 (Waco Dr.) exit; turn right; at Ashleman St., turn left (3)

Lorena

I-35 South; exit 2837 beside Brookshire’s Grocery; veer right in front of the store; go over railroad tracks; take the first left off the highway; go through streets and take another left; both JH and HS gyms are located close to each other; (15-20)

Malone JH

I-35 North to Elm Mott; exit Hwy. 308; turn right; go through Leroy and Penelope; (30)

Marlin

Hwy. 6 South; stay on Hwy. 6 South through Riesel; go past the Marlin Business exit and take the Hwy. 7 exit; turn right on Hwy. 7; HS gym will be on left; (30-35)

Mart

Hwy. 6 South; veer left on Hwy. 164 (Mart exit)

HS- in town, turn right by the Dairy Queen; go about 3-4 blocks; gym is behind the school

McGregor

Hwy. 84 West; in McGregor, turn left at the Hwy. 84 stop light and go into town on Main Street

JH- turn right at the first stop light on Main Street; go about 6-8 blocks; gym on left

HS- go through town on Main Street; school will be on right as you leave town

Meridian

Hwy. 6 North across the Lake Waco twin bridges; go through the towns of Valley Mills and Clifton; in Meridian, veer right off Hwy. 6 North and go into town; at the four-way stop, turn left on Hwy. 144; as you leave town, there will be a nursing home on your right; after you pass the nursing home, turn right on County Road 2515 and the school will then be on the left; (55-60)

Some sub-varsity games are played in the old HS gym in the middle of town; at the four-way stop, turn left on Hwy. 144; go 2-3 blocks and turn right; after turning right, the school will be several blocks ahead

Methodist Home

Mexia

I-35 North; take Lake Shore Drive exit, turn right; on Lake Shore, exit Hwy. 84 and go left; stay on Hwy. 84 (right at the Y); in Mexia, turn left at the stop light before McDonalds; HS and JH gyms are across the street from each other; (45)

Midway

Hwy. 84 West; on Hwy. 84 West, take the Estates/Hewitt Drive exit

JH-  at the stop light at the exit, turn left and proceed on Hewitt Drive; after 1-2 miles, school will be on left; turn left at the light by the school and go around the school to the faculty parking lot; you may enter the gym from the back of the building; (8)

HS- at the stop light at the exit, turn left and proceed on Hewitt Drive; after 1-2 miles, turn left on Mars Dr.; go 1-2 blocks and HS will be on right (8); park in small parking lot on west side of school and enter gyms from back side of school

Milford

I-35 North; at the I-35 split, take I-35 East; take the Milford exit and turn right; go about one mile into town: (55)

Hwy. 84 West to McGregor; turn left at the Hwy. 84 stop light in McGregor; Main Street in McGregor becomes Hwy. 317 South

Mt. Calm JH

I-35 North; take Lake Shore Drive exit, turn right; on Lake Shore, exit Hwy. 84 and go left; take Hwy. 31 (left at the Y); in Mt. Calm, school will be 1-2 blocks off Hwy. 31 on the right (20)

Oglesby

Robinson
